Recco is happy to return to the wild!
On 31st July, 2013, Dolphin Marine Magic staff successfully released “Recco”, a young male New Zealand Fur Seal, back into the waters off Winnona Headland from where he had been rescued 3 weeks earlier.
At the time of his rescue, Recco was rapidly losing body condition and Dolphin Marine Magic veterinarian determined that Recco was unlikely to survive without assistance. However after 3 weeks of care and rehabilitation there was no sign of weakness today as Recco was released to splash and play in the waves.
Before his release, Recco was fitted with identification tags and it now hoped that he will head south to join other fur seal colonies.
