Little Blue Penguin
Dolphin Marine Conservation Park has a flock of 12 Little Blue Penguins living at the park.
Most of the oldest birds were rescued from local Coffs Harbour beaches with injuries that prevented their release, whilst the younger penguins have either hatched right here at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park or were transferred from other facilities as a part of the managed Australian Little Penguin breeding program.
All the penguins at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park wear leg bands to make them easily identifiable to the Marine Mammal Specialists although a few particularly cheeky individuals (favourites of the Marine Mammal Specialists) can usually be recognised by staff on sight!
Did You Know?
- Their scientific name is Eudyptula minor.
- Their blue colour is unique across all penguin species.
- They are mainly nocturnal on land, meaning they like to be active at night.
- They can be extremely noisy!

Shona is the sweetest penguin of them all and many guests’ favourite. While she is the sweetest penguin she also doesn’t let any penguin push her around, she is a strong independent penguin.
Lulu is daughter to Lucy and Devito, and sister to Millie. She is a gentle soul and very sweet. She loves new enrichment and is always the first to come check out whatever new thing gets added to the enclosure.
Mum is Skipper and Dad is Mumble who lives at Billabong Zoo. Erik’s brother is Ramon. Erik is the most eligible bachelor and we cannot wait to see who wins his heart.

Sam is a great egg daddy, he is always racing straight back to his nest to ensure the egg is ok or will go days at a time sitting and keeping it warm. Sam is a rescue penguin who needed a home and has been a part of our penguin colony since 2005, making him the oldest penguin.
