Maggie may have happy future after vet & carers come to her aid
An Australian Pelican is back where she belongs after weeks of rehabilitation and recovery. Nicknamed “Maggie” by DMM staff, the distressed pelican was captured by DMM staff at Urunga on September 25th 2014. She was found to have a large fishing lure embedded through her bill and a deep infected wound on one shoulder. Maggie underwent surgery at Coffs Harbour’s Blue & White Veterinary Clinic followed by serveral weeks of rehabilitation at DMM including physiotherapy. It is becoming increasingly common to see sea birds & other marine animals entangled in poorly disposed of fishing line around the Coffs Coast.
